Located on the western banks of Tamar River, forty kilometres north of Launceston, choice blocks of the Kayena Vineyard are planted to unique clones of Pinot Gris. The site yields fruit of spectacular varietal definition, great purity and refreshing acidity, all are hallmarks of a truly profound cool climate wine. The stately wineworks, beautiful gardens and scenic finger lakes of Tahbilk, would not look out of place amongst the great vineyards of the old world. Bundles of Viognier cuttings from the distinguished Rhone Valley appellation of Condrieu, were amongst the first vines established at Tahbilk in the 1860s. Kevin McCarthy and Kathleen Quealy pioneered the development of Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris wines on the Mornington Peninsula in the late 1980s. Tim Knappstein began his apprenticeship under the family owned Stanley Wine Company. Within a decade, Tim had won more than 500 show awards, gold medals and trophies for the premium Leasingham range. The merry widow? Ned Kelly and his gang laid siege to the Glenrowan Inn, a small hotel thirty minutes northwest of the King Valley, which was run by Widow Ann Jones. The gang held over sixty people hostage in the hotel. The Widow Jones threw a wonderful party for the bushrangers and their captives. A great night was had by all in what turned out to be Ned's last stand.

Rabbits and livestock coexisted on the Central Otago sheep station for many years, but the four legged grazers couldn't keep up with the nocturnal activities of wild bunnies and became hopelessly outnumbered. They were driven off the land and were last seen heading north. The owner of Rabbit Ranch tried a number of measures to clean the property of rabbits but was unsuccessful. In the end, Mr McGregor decided to find a recipe for rabbit, appetizing to all, which would rid him of his rodent problem, while providing a suitable culinary match to his own, home grown Pinot Gris wine.

An assemblage of parcels Pinot Gris from the Home and Rocky Point vineyards, two warmer sites of Central Otago which yield a magnificently aromatic Pinot Gris. Hand picked grapes are whole bunch pressed and treated to an Alsace style of vinification, wild yeast ferments in small vessels followed by an extended term of age on sedimentery lees for texture and palate richness.
